Carol St. Amand Romer, owner of a New Beginning, an
AVEDA Lifestyle Salon & Day Spa, surrounds herself with l
ike minded people who aspire to a high level of
standards in
personal growth,
business values, the community and environment.
In 1977, Carol was one of nine young women to graduate
from the first
cosmetology class at Henry Abbott
Technical
School
in Danbury, CT. |
Carol opened her first salon, Salon 43, in a converted porch attached to
her
home on Fairchild Drive in
Bethel. It is in this location that she
balanced
raising
a family as a single
mother and being a successful entrepreneur.
During
her
first seven years, Carol took her passion for
beauty
and the
environment to a
new level and introduced her clientele to
AVEDA,
one of the first beauty
companies
to endorse a set of
principles
designed to encourage greater
environmental
responsibility in business.
As Salon 43 continued to grow, it was evident
that a
larger space was
needed to
accommodate
clients. On November 7, 1995,

New Beginning Salon and Day Spa
opened on 68 Stony Hill
Road
in the
Mountain
Laurel
Plaza in Bethel. Through the years,
A New Beginning has changed appearance
with an
expansion in 2008
and another
expansion underway in 2011.

Wheat board is a distinctive composite material that is created from a
rapidly renewable resource, wheat-straw. No out-gassing solvents, such
as urea formaldehyde, are added during the manufacturing process,
thus the material emits no VOCs into your workplace, home or the
atmosphere.
Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet. It takes between three
and five years to be ready to harvest, compared to 30-50 years for its
hardwood counterparts. It can grow without pesticides or chemicals. It is
totally degradable and regenerates on its own. It is a wonderfully versatile
material that can be made into hundreds of products ranging from gorgeous
hardwood flooring to sturdy furniture to luxuriously soft towels and
clothing fabric.
Cork has proven to be among the best floor covering for those who are
looking for an environmentally-friendly flooring product. Cork floors are
manufactured from the bark of cork oak trees grown in the Mediterranean.
It is harvested carefully by hand to ensure the health of individual trees.
The bark grows back, ready to be harvested in the next nine years.
The texture turns out to become smoother after every harvest.
Our retail product shelving was manufactured by NOVVO, a Canadian
based company committed to using only the very best renewable,
recyclable, and environmentally sustainable materials in design.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs have several advantages over incandescent
light bulbs: they last from 8-10 times longer, use about 75% less energy,
and produce 90% less heat while delivering more light per Watt. Replacing
one incandescent light bulb with an energy saving CFL bulb reduced
carbon monoxide emission to the atmosphere by 1,000 pounds.
Woodworkers and artisans make quality cabinets, furniture, flooring and
beams from lumber that has been reclaimed from old buildings. Wood
pieces that would otherwise be destroyed are taken and repurposed for
greener living and preservation. Using reclaimed lumber can allow raw
resources and existing timber to be saved.
Recycled carpet is made from recycled polyethelene terephthalate (PET).
PET plastic is usually found in plastic soda bottles. About 40 two-liter soda

Our Bridal Coordinators will work closely with you to arrange dates and times of services and can arrange delivery of catered food and beverages to the salon the day of the wedding, if desired.
